In fact, children are eleven times more likely to be injured by fireworks if they are unsupervised. Injuries could be prevented if parents were more involved with what their children do. There are many things a parent can do to prevent injuries. First of all know what kind of fireworks the child is using. Five percent of injuries are from illegal fireworks, twenty-five from firecrackers, twenty-one from rockets, and eleven from sparklers. Parents also must realize that children are curious and lack physical coordination to light or use fireworks. Children might want to put them in a bottle or make homemade fireworks of their own. Supervision is especially needed when using lighters or matches and to insure that they are not held in hands.
