What exactly is Pop Art? An over-used question which has a simple answer; a form of art that depicts objects or scenes from everyday life and employs techniques of commercial art and popular illustration. It was based on everyday life and the popular culture around everyone, for instance, magazines, comics, celebrities and objects. .
.
Although pop art did start to emerge in the 1950's in England, the time it really hit everyone was in the 60's, in New York. The art was new and unique, which stopped the fine line between "high art" and "low art", and brought a new meaning to the word "art". It was witty, clever and humorous, and no doubt it stirred up a media and artist frenzy. .
.
Still, the argument goes on as to whether the most amazing innovation of the 20th century is pop art, or cubism. Both arose from a rebellion against an accepted style: the Cubists thought Post-Impressionist artists were too tame and limited, while Pop Artists thought the Abstract Expressionists pretentious and over-intense. .

Obviously, possibly the most famous pop artists of all time is Andy Warhol (1928-1987), he is a household name all over the world. Many of his pieces were of famous people, including himself. His most famous and favourite pieces being the Campbells soup tin, and the portrait of Marilyn Monroe, which, ironically happens to be my favourite piece. This could be because I have a personal interest for her, however I love the extreme colour and simplicity in it. So little detail, yet it resembles her tremendously.

Colour and simplicity. Yet it is so amazing and eye-catching. The reason pop art has to be my most favourite type of art. How everyday objects can be so fascinating to look at once on canvas, paper, and walls, whether in paint, pencils or chalk. Pop art is not everyones number 1 on their choice of art, however I find it is most definitely appreciated and admired.
