"In sickness and in health til death do us part-, with those familiar words, millions of people each year are married; a public affirmation of a private bond both society and the newlyweds hope will endure. However, this tradition of marriage has been denied to homosexuals not until this few days ago. Now that same-sex marriage has been legalized, many controversies, trivial arguments against it have been aroused. Religion shouldn't interfere in the legalization of same-sex marriage only because love and fidelity are what matters most between couples, and marriage is a right of every individual including homosexuals.
Religious values shouldn't dictate who gets married. Legalizing same-sex marriage has been found by many extremists as promiscuous and religious beliefs are commonly used by majority as their arguments to oppose the issue "a maneuver which I consider reprehensible. Extremists would start to argue that "same-sex marriage is a violation of basic biblical tenets,"" and then would start citing passages, without regard for the cultural context or literary genre of the passages invoked, from the ground of religious faith which is the bible. Doing this might cost them to lose the credibility of the claim, for like the ones in the bible, stories that are so old, so very ancient are always true, but they aren't always correctly noted down and explained. In short, religious values, beliefs or faith shouldn't be used when dealing in social and political same-sex marriage issue.
Banning same-sex marriage is discriminatory. In 1967, the Supreme Court declared marriage as "one of the basic civil rights of man."" In other words, marriage is a basic human right and therefore, shouldn't be denied to any individual. If homosexuals are being deterred to many because it was said that marriage is essentially a lifelong compact between a man and woman committed to the creation and nurture of offspring, it would be fair enough then to also forbid the heterosexuals who are unable to have children due to infertility and age, and who choose or elect not to.
