There were two main reasons I chose America. First, I believe America has the widest worldview in the world. America consists of immigrants from all over the world, as we know from its nickname - the melting pot.
Through the history, they keep accepting the new immigrants and melting together. It makes them open-minded to the world, I think. Second, America plays the important role in the internationalization in reality. America has the headquarters of major international organizations, represented by the United Nations and we hardly have the important worldwide meetings without America. These facts tell you how much effect America has today. These two main reasons made me decide that America is the best place to study International Relations. .
Five months have passed since I came to California. I already know my decision was absolutely right. I"m having a valuable time. I have experienced various things that I could never experience if I stayed in Japan. My host family, my friends, my classmates, my teachers each person has the unique background. I only knew the Japanese just five months ago, but now I have Scottish-American host mother, African-American friend, Arabian-American classmate, and Chinese-American teacher. They show me and teach me their cultures and I can even feel their heritage when I"m just talking with them. It's exciting to feel the various cultures in everyday life. .
Though it's a shame that some teenagers don't know their heritage at all. They know which countries their ancestors came from, but they don't know what the countries are like or even where the countries are. I can't imagine how I would feel about my home country if I"d never been there, but still I believe we should remember where we are originally from. .
That's why I"m so glad when I meet someone who cherishes his or her heritage. My friend Susie, whose parents are originally from Italy, wears a beautiful bracelet on her left arm.
