Married Priesthood

I chose the article written by David Mcauley about the issue of priestly marriage. (A Married Priesthood, New York Times September 9, 2003) The author of this article is basically saying that allowing Catholic priests to marry and have children would greatly benefit the church. The author doesn't give any evidence to back his article, it's purely opinion. It's not empirically testable to really know if, "bishops having their own children are far more likely than a celibate bishop to understand the incredible parental love and bond to a child," because it's impossible to test a person's feelings. .
The hypothesis is, if priests are allowed to marry and have children of their own, there would be a larger "recruiting pool for future church leaders" and would decrease "abusive clergy." The independent variable is marriage. The categories would be priests who are married and priests who are not. The dependent variable would be abuse. The categories are priests who are abusive and priests who are not. The unit of analysis would be priests. .
You could measure the variables by testing priests who are married and who aren't. Also, priests who have children and children who don't. Then you could test the dependent variable by testing what priests are abusive and what priests aren't. I think that there would be a strong correlation with priests who are married and priests who are not abusive. I think that priests who have a significant other would be happier and less sexually abusive to kids. Priests who are celibate are lonelier than priests that have a loving family.
If I created a scatterplot the x-axis would show the amount of abusive priests. The y-axis would represent the number of priests who married. The chart would have a positive correlation. .
