The French Revolution was caused by a variety of political, social, and economic influences. The king of France, King Louis XVI, was a vital cause of the political influences of the Revolution. The way King Louis XVI spent money in France, which put France into debt, and the taxes given caused the economic repercussions of the Revolution. The way money was spent in France also reflected the social recoil of the French Revolution because of the taxes and the way the people lived. These are all connected together in some way, starting with the political prestige before the Revolution started.
The political causes of the French Revolution evolved from problems King Louis XVI caused. He ruled France as an absolute monarch. (Document 1) King Louis XVI didn't care about the well being of France. This made him a very a weak leader. This was because he didn't care about the state. Therefore he spent France's money on himself, and lived in luxury. The people of France were upset with the way France was being run, mostly the third estate, which included merchants, peasants, doctors, lawyers, and serfs. They decided that they would use ideas from the Declaration of Independence, that America used, to help make their government better. The king agreed to the declaration, but things didn't change. So the third estate sat on the tennis court of the king's palace, this is known as the Tennis Court Oath. The king told them that things would change but it may take a while. When that didn't work the people of the third estate weren't very happy and started to revolt. This wasn't the only thing that upset the third estate. The taxes they had to pay and the money the king was spending also upset them, which caused some economic issues.
The economy was suffering greatly in France before the French Revolution. King Louis XVI spent a lot of money on himself, such as building the Palace of Versailles, rather than on improvements for France.
