Prayer in School

Christians believe that prayer does wonders for someone's life along with interacting people's lives. Perhaps no aspect of the church-state arouses more emotion than the subject of prayer in public schools. After all, public schools are paid by the tax payer and what religious supporter would want their money to support a school that prohibits their children from praying? With that being said what nonbeliever would want their money going to a school that requires their children to participate in prayer? This is one of the reasons that prayer is the center of much controversy and discussions about public schools. Many people are strongly for prayer in public schools along with many people that are strongly against it. With the evidence that will be produced in this essay people will find that prayer should not be required in public schools. .
This discussion has been going on for many years now. It started with the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America. The drafters of the Constitution didn't believe that they had to include religious beliefs in a document that was going to shape their republic. Little did they know that this would end up being a great controversy in the future. This ended up being the first notable mention of Separation of Church and State. The phrase Separation of Church and State comes from Thomas Jefferson who expressed his opinion that the federal government did not have the authority to prescribe even occasional performances of religious devotion in schools or anywhere else. Jefferson created this term because of a letter that the committee of The Danbury Baptist Association in Connecticut wrote to him. That letter stated, .
"Our sentiments are uniformly on the side of religious liberty, and religion is at all times and places a matter between God and individuals." "No man ought to suffer in Name, person, or effects on account of his religious opinions.
