The film "Dead Man Walking", tells the story of a murder that took place by two men, who killed a teenage couple. This is the background of what the main story is about. She meets with the victim's parents and with Poncelet's family too. Sister Helen and Poncelet develop this strong bond that many people find surprising. Sister Helen stays next to Poncelet through the final days of his life. The faith of the two gets challenged, but they overcome this challenge by the superiority of the friendship they have together. At the end of the film, we see a montage of what happened that night of the murder in the woods, while Poncelet is heading towards his execution and ultimately dies. .
The greatest theme in this film is the power of forgiveness. We see that Poncelet is truly sorry for what he is done towards the end of the film. And as an audience, we see that it was forgiveness that made him realize this. We see this theme in the scene of when Poncelet and Sister Helen are talking about the Bible and talk about the power of forgiveness.
