As we can see, globalization is a very important topic these days. There are a lot of international firms with employees from all over the world. Coca-Cola, for instance, is a wide company and has become an icon of globalization. We all think Coca-Cola as an American firm. However, as of 1998, North America accounts for only 34% of Coca-Cola's sales " and only 24% of Coke's profits. It operates in over 200 countries, more than the number of members of the United Nations. It used to be an American firm and now it is an international firm which is spread all over the world.
Globalization and business are very close. A globalized firm, which is an international firm, has employees from all over the world, or just the ones from the countries of target markets. Working in an international firm, or directing one has both advantages and disadvantages. .
Let's see the disadvantages first:.
People with different cultures can have problems with each other sometimes. There are a lot of people who treat foreign people according to how the politics are at those days. Also, there may be misunderstandings between people who speak different languages.
Again different cultures can be problematic because what motivates one can't always motivate the other one. One works harder according to the money he/she gets, the other one wants social guarantee. Also, the working styles and discipline mentality of each emplyoee are different from each other. .
An international firm has to be very careful about the foreign market. The employees have to know the beliefs and values of the country. Otherwise they would produce a product which doesn't sell at all at that market. .
Most of the international firms have to wait longer for the payments, as they have to wait until their products reach the countries in the overseas.
