Lolita

He becomes a perverted individual when he locks his eyes upon Lolita for the first time. He likes to sit and watch her and it gives him pleasure to see her behave as a normal child. Her immature ways remind him of his Annabelle and it excites him. Humbert become sick and twisted when Lolita demonstrates her feelings for him and he allows it to continue. I realize that it is Dolores that first initiates the sex between the two of them but Humbert is an adult. He should have been wise enough to tell her what they were about to do was sinful. Yet he let the sex go on between them knowing that he could get into a huge turmoil if anyone was to find out what was going on. .
In society this unlawful act of child sexual abuse would be considered one of the few mores that this country actually has. Humbert would be looked at as a dirty, corrupted, outsider. In the film, Humbert realizes what he has done and he says he is a, "willing corruptor of the innocent."" There are a few scenes where you can plainly see that society is beginning to catch on to what is going on between Humbert and Lolita. For example, when Lolita is talking on the phone in the little café and Humbert comes in to find her. The woman working behind the counter has a look of suspicion. You can tell that she's wondering what kind of business an older man would have with a young girl. Another prime example would be when Humbert is trying to reserve a room at the hotel for himself and Dolores. Humbert slips up when he is speaking to the man at the front desk and he says he would like a room with two beds and a cot for him and his short-small daughter.
As far as Lolita's mother, Charlotte Haze played by Melanie Griffith goes, I think she knew all along that Lolita had a thing for Humbert. I think that Charlotte was jealous of Lolita's flirtatious relationship with Humbert and that is most likely why Lolita was sent off to summer camp.
