I wanted to compare and contrast Krispy Kreme to another well-known brand, Dunkin' Donuts. When I went to research online, I was overwhelmed with what I found. There were so many articles and surveys comparing the two. I realized that people really do like their doughnuts. Articles from references such as Business Week Online, the South Coast Today, the Chicago Tribune online edition, Sunset, Best and Worst.com, and both the Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' Donuts web pages had a plethora of information. .
Dunkin' Donuts matches up well against Krispy Kreme because the chains satisfy different needs. Krispy Kreme mainly deals in bulk, selling dozens of the same kind of doughnuts, while Dunkin' Donuts offers consumers a wider variety for individual tastes. Krispy Kreme doughnuts have come to occupy such a noteworthy status in the American ethos; one would expect them to be the market leader. However, that is not the case.
Dunkin' Donuts has over 24 stores for every one Krispy Kreme outlet; its sales are nearly 10 times as high. It makes me wonder, does Krispy Kreme deserve all the hype? This is what the Chicago Tribune asked in an online survey. Out of 4343 responses, 2736 (63%) answered yes they do, 1420 (32.7%) replied that they were not, and 187 (4.3%) had never tried one. In another online survey at Best and Worst.com asked which doughnuts were better, Krispy Kreme or Dunkin" Donuts. Krispy Kreme was in the lead with votes.
In conclusion, I wonder, where are all of the Dunkin' Donut devotees? Krispy Kreme has a fan club and is more recognized than Dunkin". Even when I asked my friends, which was better, they generally responded Krispy Kreme. Even if they had not eaten them, they had heard of them and answered with the majority. Dunkin' Donuts have the sales, but Krispy Kreme has the fans.
