Fishing is what I love to do in the Port Isabel Laguna Madre area. Fishing helped me to know the different types of fish in the Laguna Madre. The years of fishing experience helped me to participate in my first fishing tournament that I found was very exciting and enjoyable. Fishing is a relaxing and enjoyable outdoor recreation. .
Port Isabel has some of the best fishing spots in Texas. Whether fishing on a boat or wading, you will get lucky with a few catches. The catch may include a redfish, speckled trout, drum, flounder, sand trout, skipjack or croaker. Three of my favorites are the redfish, speckled trout and drum. The redfish is a beautiful fish. Its colors are red, orange and gray with a black spot at the end of its tail. Sometimes it has more that one spot on its body. The speckled trout is gray with spots all over its upper body and has a yellow mouth. I find speckled trout to be one of the best eating fish. The drum is similar to the redfish but the color on the drum is gray with dark gray lines running across its body. This fish got its name because they make a drum noise when reeling them in and you can hear it especially when on land. When feeding, the drum's tail is up in the air while it digs for food with its mouth. You can actually see the tail wiggle out of the water and it is an exciting moment to see.
I have fished for several years and I find it relaxing, enjoyable and exciting. I can remember a fishing tournament I participated one year. This fishing tournament is held every year and is for women only. It is called The Ladies Fishing Tournament and women from all over Texas come down to participate. It is an exciting and challenging event. The fishing tournament starts at dawn and lasts until the evening hours. We went out on a boat early in the morning to a fishing spot called mesquite flats. We caught a few fish but none big enough to enter in the tournament.
