On the website National Organization for Women, it stated that the "Equal Pay Day takes place on a Tuesday symbolizing the point in the next week to which a woman must work in order to receive the same pay that a man received in the previous week- (website). Controversy increases when women must have a day that they show the world that they are being paid less. Do they really think that wearing red will help them get raises? When women consider their salaries they have come a long way. But just how much longer must they wait until it is equal to what men get? .
Many Women have managed to have a family and also a job. But many employers believe that women can't juggle a career and also a family. Women have proved this incorrect for years, but yet the burden that they face is great. .
One of the biggest challenges working women face today is balancing the needs of family with the demands of work schedules. For far too many women, inflexible work schedules prevent them from addressing family emergencies, attending parent teacher conferences, and dealing with the many family needs that arise unexpectedly throughout the course of a typical month or year. Lawmakers attempted to address this issue on April 3, 2003, by making The Family Time Flexibility Act that states: "This piece of legislation would allow an employee to receive, in lieu of monetary overtime compensation, compensatory time off at a rate not less than one and one-half hours for each hour of employment for which overtime compensation is required under the Act (U.S. House of Representatives)-. This act is a significant step towards helping working women to make juggling a family and also a career easier.
Working women face additional challenges in the area of adequate, convenient, and safe childcare. Many businesses could make this so much easier if they had childcare opportunities available in the office building. In the Census Bureau of 2000 it stated that, "In 2000, full-day child care costs range from $4,000 to $10,000 per year--at least as much as college tuition- (Census Bureau).
