Religion effects on the environment

The story told in this doctrine has a profound effect on Christian religious followers who use these beliefs unconsciously when relating to the world around them. These underlying ideas tend to be imbedded in the culture of many westerners because these religious documents give humans the idea that they are above nature and that humans are the master of the earth. Lynn White states, "God planned all of this explicitly for man's benefit and rule; no item in the physical creation had any purpose save to serve man's purposes. although man's body is made of clay, his is not simply part of nature; he is made in God's image" (9). .
On the other hand some Eastern religions, such as Hinduism and Buddhism, are in opposition to Christianity because there is no hierarchy of beings taught within these religions. There is no existence of man's domination of creatures and no special place for human beings within God's system of life, taught in these religions. Hinduism includes no idea of human beings being dominant or having dominion over nature, but instead all beings are equal and on the same level of worth. This is contrary to the trademark Christian idea of human dominion over all of God's creations and the idea all things were specifically placed on earth for the benefit of human kind. .
In Hinduism, only God has absolute sovereignty over all creatures, including human beings, thus, the human being has no dominion over his/her own life or other forms of life. All lives, human and non-human beings, are of equal value and have the same right to existence (Yong Hun 4). .
The Christian religion is one of the most anthropocentric in the world because man is the most important feature of life, at the center of all beings and objects on earth. This just increased the western view that humans are in control of all processes on the earth therefore giving humans a stronger right to life than any other being on the planet.
