On October 19th I attended the San Diego State University Symphony Orchestra, San Diego State University Wind Symphony, and San Diego State University Choir concert, which was sponsored by the San Diego State University School of Music and Dance and was also held at SDSU in the Smith Recital Hall. Harold Warman conducted the SDSU Symphony Orchestra and the SDSU Wind Symphony while Frank Almond conducted the SDSU Choirs. Dr. Frank Almond is a Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at SDSU. Professor Harold Warman has been conducting orchestras for the past thirty-six years. He has taken groups to perform at several places such as Switzerland, German, Austria, Canada, Mexico, and Japan. Mr. Warman has been involved with several Orchestra and Band associations, having served on the California School Band and Orchestra Association board and College Band Directors National Association. With these two highly decorated conductors leading the concert, I assumed it would be a good one. The concert had many varied songs with different rhythms and melodies. Throughout the concert I would have considered myself as a referential listener, as I am for most things. Certain pieces and sounds played throughout the concert reminded me of certain things in my environment like the music played in eerie movies or even the music my teachers play during exams and silent reading. .
The concert began with Harold Warman presenting the Choir and Orchestra. Following that Mr. Warman stated that the Choir would be performing first because people need to learn to enjoy both aspects of music, not one over the other. The choir started off by performing "Suite from The Choral New Yorker". This is a set of four poems from Irving Fine. The choir first read the poems and performed them after. Following the SDSU Chamber Signers, the SDSU Concert Choir performed "Muie Rendera" by C.A. Pinto-Fonseca and "Regina Coeli" by W.
