            Smoking is becoming very popular these days, especially between people of the younger generation. Even though smoking is very bad for one's health and has many side effects, people still continue to do it today. Giving up smoking is a process, and just by thinking of it, you've made the first important step in that process. .
             Some people start smoking because of peer pressure. But in society today, if peer pressure were going to be the influencing factor, it would make people quit smoking, not continue to smoke. Many teens take up smoking to look older and more mature. Others take up smoking to be rebellious. Their parents, teachers, doctors, and other adults told them they couldn't smoke. In order to show them who was in control, they smoked any way. Another reason why people start smoking could be from living with people who smoke. Advertising techniques are one of the main reasons people begin to smoke.
             Many start smoking for a variety of reasons, but they continue for just one- they become drug addicts. Some smokers continue because of their self-destructive attitude. They actually want to get sick because they are afraid of reaching an old age. Some people have emotional problems, which leads to self-destructive behavior. On the other hand, many quit to make people happy or for medical reasons. After they quit, they start to realize that not smoking is a nicer way of life. Sometimes the quality of life becomes more important to them than the length of their life. .
             It may seem like a simple paper tube that contains tobacco, but there are many dangerous chemicals in cigarettes. Smoking is highly dangerous to your health, and to the people who are around you. Cadmium is found in cigarettes. It is a poisonous metal used to make batteries, which causes liver, kidney, and brain damage. This substance causes a cigarette to be more harmful when inhaled. Another substance found in cigarettes is lead, which is a toxic metal.
