            Millions of people cannot start their day without having a cup of coffee. As more and more people drink coffee, we are starting to realize it's effects on our bodies. Coffee has one of the most addicting drugs in it, caffeine. It was first isolated from coffee in 1820. Caffeine, a white, bitter powder, is a water soluble alkaloid (Caffeine). It is used in many items that we consume daily, such as coffee, tea, soda, and chocolate. People try to argue that caffeine is not addicting, it is not a "drug". Addiction is defined by "Webster's" as the compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance. In coffee, the habit-forming substance is caffeine. .
             Caffeine can affect many different parts of your body in many different ways. It can affect your central nervous system, cardiac muscles, and respiratory system. Many people turn to coffee, tea, or soda's with high caffeine amounts to keep them awake when they are tired or worn down. Caffeine helps to delay fatigue, making your body feel like it is full of energy after a cup of coffee. A good affect of caffeine is it helps to cleanse the kidneys and liver (Caffeine). The affects of caffeine are normally felt immediately after it is in the body. .
             Over stimulation from putting too much caffeine in your body may cause anxiety, irritability, and restlessness. Studies show that concentration improves with a small amount of caffeine, and reaction times speed up. But too much caffeine can have a reaction in the exact opposite of a small amount taken in. The caffeine a body takes in can cause a chemical reaction with the cells. It indirectly affects the increase of the release from adrenal glands of epinephrine and norepinephrine hormones which stimulate cell activity. Muscle performance is improved during exercise after taking caffeine, but too much caffeine intake may cause twitching of the muscles. In the heart, the muscle is stimulated by caffeine causing blood to circulate faster and causing a rise in blood pressure for a short period of time.
