Developmental Stages of Children

Preschoolers start becoming more independent than toddlers and are able to express their needs to their parents as now they have better control and command of their language. During this age group, they also start understanding the meaning of fear for the first time. They play hard, fast and furious; then they tire suddenly and get cranky and irritable, which are signs that the importance of getting the required amount of sleep is so important at this stage. Preschoolers spend a lot of time learning how to get along with others. "Best friends" are very important, but such friendships are brief and may only last a few minutes. Hurt feelings (and sometimes swift kicks) are part of the learning process too. [Author Unknown1, http://www.nap.edu/netsafekids/protect_und.html].
