Gilman vs. stanton

In 1898, Charlotte Perkins Gilman produced an analytic piece called "Women and Economics." In this writing Gilman discusses the many different ways women could earn their living, as well as, how women are like men even though it doesn't seem like that. Throughout the story, she shows how women were treated and what their economic status was like. Similarly, Elizabeth Cady Stanton wrote a piece that was reprinted in 1922, which described her own experience. In this narrative story she tells the reader that with her own logic and reason she went against the male doctors to cure her son. Even though the writings are a bit different, they both seek to prove that women can earn a living and do things on their own if they used their own minds to figure out what was needed to be done, rather just following instructions from males. .
In Gilman's story she really shows how women are like men. She makes the argument about how a wife is in a "partnership" with the husband. This type of relationship is one that neither can succeed without. The husband would not be able to bring in all the wealth single-handedly. Here, the wife is not the employee of her husband, who would act like the employer. In addition, "Man and wife are partners truly in their mutual obligation to their children, -their common love, duty, and service" (Rossi 573). Each sex is equally obliged to complete the duties they face on a daily basis. The husband in this type of relationship doesn't have more responsibilities and doesn't have the ability to act superior over the wife. This continues to support Gilman's idea of the similarity between man and woman. .
On top of that she makes a point about how females are raised to act like females. Since the day they are born, girls are told they have to act and dress in a certain manner. What this does to a child is isolate her from learning outside of what is being taught to her. Girls are taught things that will help them achieve the perfect housewife role rather than material that could bring a good education and successful job.
