The Silk Road

The main reason why I chose this chapter to analyze was because I am extremely interested in learning about that particular region of the world. For instance, South East Asia. I am fascinated with how the authors exemplified the social systems and historical impact of exchange networks that developed between 300 B.C.E. and 1100 C.E in Europe, Asia and Africa. .
According to the importance of the matter, unequivocally feel that the authors who wrote this text book Bulliet, Crossley, Hedrick Hirsch and Johnson Northup did an extremely great job giving the importance of the Silk Road throughout the chapter. The Silk Road was an ancient trading route that connected China to the West. The route carried all sorts of goods and ideas between the two civilizations of China and Rome. This trade route underwent periods or intense exploitations, where is very relevant to my topic in South East Asia. The Silk Road was an important element in the history of "Asian Trade". The authors described this story from the commencing of the Silk Road, through its times, to where it was functioning at its highest potential (100 B.C.E), the impact it created on its civilization (what started the second millennium B.C.E also happened again through the second period of the Silk Road caused by the folk migrations.). I feel that this chapter was very well written and due to completeness I give it an A, because they authors did an outstanding job describing the Silk Road, the significance it had in Asia's History and its impacts.
As well as the authors doing a great job on the Silk Road, the also did a very good job on describing the Indian Ocean Maritime System, which was a trade system that flowed through the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea (which reflected the Silk Road). There is not much information that can be told about the Indian Ocean Maritime system. Because the seafarers who founded this system left very few traces and did not interact with the empires, so for we have very little evidence.
