Music

            I have been involved with solos and ensembles from when I began playing flute in elementary school. Every year of high school I prepared a solo and ensemble to take to District Music Contest. I have also had the honor of being a flute accompaniment/descant to my school's choir and swing choir - the choir director calls me the "best flute in the school's history" (she has been at the school at least 14 years). This has meant playing a solo or accompaniment at nearly every concert during my junior and senior years of high school. Ensembles in which I play have been featured as the only ensemble performing at band concerts where exemplary performers are chosen to play between band selections.
             My flute playing has gone beyond school performances; I have been invited to go with the swing choir when they perform for Senior Citizens Christmas parties - my descant and ensemble is the only one ever to have done this. I have also played with our churches" organists in leading worship where I played descants to hymns being sung; in addition I've performed similarly with our church choirs. Additionally, I performed with a flute choir in an Iowa middle school; a quite unique experience since it included a bass and alto flutes. We were invited to play at a soiree for our local library in addition to performing at school.
             During my senior year, I have performed with the Doane College Honor band where I placed first chair of all flutes selected for any of the bands. I attended Music Camp at Concordia in 2003 and am performing with the Honor Band in 2004. I've been honored with my present high school's band letter and pin for participation beyond band class as well as my leadership within our band. .
