As a senior in high school, I didn't think anything could happen to me. August 28, 2003 started off as any other day. During my first two periods, everything remained normal. As usual, my friends and I went to lunch after school. We discussed where we wanted to go and I suggested Subway. Leaving school, we were on our way. Little did I know, a couple of miles down the road, I would have my first car wreck.
My boyfriend and another friend were in a car in front of me as we left the school. The main road had been backed up because of construction, so we decided to take the back roads. These long winding roads helped us get there faster, but we couldn't have ever guessed something of great gloom would ruin my whole week. As we made our way to the intersection to cross the highway, my boyfriend got in the wrong lane. Stopping in the middle of the road, I tried to let him get back in front of me. He wouldn't so I stopped at the red light.
Traffic seemed to be backed up like cars parked at a concert. The stoplight having turned green, the cars started going and I found myself crossing the highway. The smell of fresh tar, sounds of honking horns, sight of hurried drivers, and the cold air coming out of my air conditioner made me feel as if everything was as it should be. soon realized it would be hard to get into Subway's parking lot. Turning on my blinker, I stopped to wait for the traffic to pass so I could turn into the lot. A man in a pretty, dark blue truck backed up a little and waved me through. The next moments were terrifying, surprising, startling, and most of all depressing. .
Halfway across the road, I felt like a little kid driving bumper cars at an amusement park. By the time I put my car in park, got out, shut the car door, walked around to see the damage, I finally realized I had pulled out in front of someone I could not see.
