American women have a better life than women in ancient Rome. Women in America receive a better education than women in Rome. This is important because with education you can earn more money. It gives them more choices and freedom. Even though both Roman women and American women are expected to run a household, American women can get a job to earn more money or to pursue a career. Roman women could only be midwives, priestesses, doctors, or hairdressers. American women have just about any profession open to them. The women of Rome couldn't vote, but women in America can. Women today can also be elected to any political office, giving them more power to influence the country. Women in Rome spun and wove their clothing by hand while women in America usually buy their machine-made clothing at stores. This allows American women to have more free time since they aren't spending so much of their time making their clothes by hand. It takes a lot less time and energy to go to a store, try some clothes on, and pay for them then it would to plan out the clothing, get the material, and sew it. They both wear makeup, but it's more available to women in America and probably cheaper. They also both wear jewelry, but more women today wear jewelry because it's more available. Roman women couldn't choose whom they wanted to marry. Usually their fathers would decide for them and they had no choice in the matter. Women in America have more freedom and can usually marry whomever they want.
