This research paper is to describe obesity in children and how dangerous and life threatening it can be. Obesity today is growing more and more. In the past this was very rare and now it is very common among children today. .
A study was done in Britain to see if being obese as a child had a life time affect. The study showed that being obese as a child does not mean a life of obesity. Also being obese as a child was not linked to obesity in an adult. Only children who were obese at age thirteen had an increased risk of obesity as adults. Being thin as a child has no help in obesity as an adult. Obese children are having abnormal blood pressure and cholesterol values. .
This research did not impress an Australian public health researcher who said that current social conditions make it hard for obese kids to ever get the weight off. (http://www.abc.net.au/science/news/stories/s431263.htm).
Dr. Clare Colins said the problem was exacerbated by the fact that more than 30 percent of parents with overweight children did not realize that their child was overweight and were failing to act on the problem. Research has shown that obese adolescent girls were more likely to have lower education levels, lower incomes and be living below the poverty line. Other studies have shown that boys who are overweight are twice as likely to die, or have cancer, or suffer a stroke before they reach the age of 55, regardless of their adult weight. Dr. Clare Colins said that overweight children were experiencing high blood pressure, mechanical and metabolism problems, and beginning of heart disease. Dr. Colins is in the process of establishing a program for overweight children focusing solely on the parents helping children to be more active, eat healthy and manage stress. Obesity can cause many diseases such as diabetes, sleep apnea and many others. Obesity is also a cause of children being hospitalized.
