The Popular Arts

They are experiencing something exciting that is away from the norm. The feelings that popular art can stir can vary greatly, for example if a youth watches a show portraying in some that teenagers are in some way oppressed and not taken seriously, this might inspire some sort of rebellious feeling. As long as we as people do watch these shows with a certain caution and regard to knowing that most of them are not real and should not be taken literally I see no wrong in enjoying an imitation or mockery of reality from time to time. I feel, while popular art to a lesser more harmless extent, it is a little bit like starring at an accident scene on the highway, while sometimes it can cause disruption everybody still looks.
Popular entertainment is also dismissed due to its frequent us of various forms of vulgarity, which can vary in degree. Classically, some form of vulgarity displayed in art has always been popular, or when the reaction from the crowd seems to be of a crude nature some tend to think of this as simple minded pleasure, here again we see one of the founding fathers of this attitude to be Plato. Who was mainly in criticism for what was popular at his time, things like Greek tragedies and such. When he would view a crowds reaction to such things he found them to be loud, boisterous and above all unintelligent and irrational, things still criticized by many philosophers. Vulgarity is an expression that is criticized by many not just philosophers. Those who do dismiss it think that it shows immoral things, making people again think its ok to act out of the norm or disrespectfully. This to a certain extent can be true, if a show can make a person express some sort of feeling or emotion, vulgarity is not exception to the rule. However, I feel that those judge vulgarities in popular art so quickly miss two important points. First the general populous is just that, general.
