The criterion for my assignment was to produce a genre film, edited with diagetic and .
The length would be five minutes or under. We chose teenage .
horror/romance as our genre. No number was allocated to our repertoire of .
dispensable shots, thus leaving film pace in the hands of our creativity.
The film we produced was of a low budget and therefore relied on style & .
ingenuity rather than special effects. We begun with a good idea although possibly .
clichéd in films of a similar genre. A zoom out from a red solution fogging the .
frame revealed itself to be but a drink, red in texture, fore-boding in the nature of that .
which follows. Alignment of shots entailed an initial establishing shot taken from .
inside a room. The room catered for the indulgeance of a house-party environment .
during its finishing hours, low key lighting is an indication of closure to the party. .
A medium long shot of our protagonist walking along a corridor suggests her .
Vulnerability. She is encase rated by two walls littered with people as she proceeds .
out of the doorway. This exiting out of the door symbolises an exit from that part of .
her life into the next through the codes and conventions of mise en scene.
In want of a sinister overtone to her introduction to our Vampire character we .
opted to film during the night. A portable external light was borrowed for the .
creation of intense shadows but due to technical difficulties it was not utilised .
leaving streetlights to suffice. An estate location was suitable in that it presented an .
sense of foreboding tendency. .
.
Deciding to follow up the meeting of the two lovers with a quick montage we.
illustrated their bonding over a series of activities. This montage succeeds a graphic .
match of our protagonists watch and big Ben, an indication of a lapse of time in .
continuity editing creating expectation doubled by anticipation in a close-up shot prior .
to this where lipstick is applied.
