The principal activities undertaken by Ministry of Environment and Forests, consist of conservation and survey of flora, fauna, forests and wildlife, prevention and control of pollution, afforestation and regeneration of degraded areas and protection of environment, in the frame work of legislations.
The main tools utilized for this include surveys, impact assessment, control of pollution, regeneration programs, support to organizations, research to solve solutions and training to augment the requisite manpower, collection and dissemination of environmental information and creation of environmental awareness among all sectors of the country's population. The organized structure of the Ministry covers a number of Divisions, Directorate, Board, subordinate offices, autonomous Institutions, and Public Sector Undertakings.
India is committed to reducing pollution and harm on the environment. I hope this treaty will collectively aid in the reduction of environmental degradation worldwide. It is India's hopes that the nine countries involved in this treaty will help one another in building the capacities needed to understand, and combat environmental disasters. India would like to be able to share its achievements in the environmental arena with others who need help in that particular field. India also would like to take advantage of this sharing opportunity by accepting assistance in building capacities to fight some of India's largest environmentally challenging problems. Directly or indirectly this sharing of information would have a profound impact on the environment. Directly, poorer heavily polluted countries that don't have the money or capacity to combat harmful issues could use the suggestions and research generated from the treaty to protect their environment. The indirect benefit of this same situation would be the reduction of overall harm on the environment worldwide.
