GAY MARRIAGES


            There are many important issues discussed in public policy today. One of these issues is same-sex marriage. This is an important issue because it deals with a relatively large minority of the United States. This issue is put into many different aspects including morals, family values and religion; and those of equality, constitutionality, and right to privacy. .
             The controversy is that homosexuals are 'gay' due to a combination of factors. These factors are environment, and society, the outside influences, and genetics. Hence, homosexuals do not decide their own sexuality, nor do heterosexuals. Therefore, homosexuals should have the same rights as heterosexuals, one of these rights is marriage. If it is proven that there is a gene that causes homosexuality, than we can sketch a line between not allowing homosexuals to marry and not allowing blonds to marry. Marriage goes beyond the benefits, however. The category of marriage is a very respected one, and possess much sentimental and emotional value for many people.
             Homosexuality is on the rise in the United States as well as many other countries around the world. Along with the rise of homosexuality is the rise of marriages that are taking place in these socially incorrect relationships. Throughout the country and in other countries there has been a numerous increase in the marriages of homosexuals. Same sex marriages defy the laws of Christianity, and it is immoral in the eyes of society.
             In 1970 so many gay couples requested marriage licenses from Los Angles couty clerk, that clerks office requested Claifornia legistalture to tighten California marriage laws. By the late 1990s over 30 states have explicitly limiting marriages between a man and a women, also in November 1998 elctions in Hawai voters passed a ballot saying that there should be a marriage between a man and a women. The biggest blow to gay community came with the passage of Federal government's Defence of Marriage act (DOMA) in 1996, which defined marriage for federal purposes as a legal union between one man and one women, and permitted states to ignore out -of-state gay marriages, despite constitutional law that ruled otherwise (book).
