Girl Interrupted

Like if you feel a little crazy and damaged why not go down that path in life and see where it gets you. She then goes on to show how the psychiatric hospital is like a parallel universe where "Tables can be clocks; faces, flowers" and that in the real world this is invisible, but once you are in it you easily see the world that you came from. I think I can understand what she means by this, although I cannot say I have ever slipped into a parallel universe myself, but it gives you a really good idea of what it could be like.
The second chapter called "The Taxi" is the chapter showing you the day she was sent up to the hospital for what her doctor called "a rest." Susanna had always been quite a repressed person, withdrawing herself from socializing with people her age at school and did not care about graduating at school or making herself presentable to her parents" family and friends. That's why her mum had sent Susanna to a psychiatrist doctor to find out what was going on in her head and why she acted the way she did. She took a lot of pills with a bottle of vodka trying to kill herself as she felt she had had enough with the world and everyone in it. .
The doctor talks to her about the pimple on her face that she must have picked and she explain at how it was yearning for release "Freeing it from its little white dome, pressing until the blood ran, I felt a sense of accomplishment: I"d done all that could be done for this pimple." It's like she is talking about her own feelings of being trapped and the longing to be freed from these feelings. The doctor goes on repeating "You've been picking yourself" several times before Susanna agrees with him as she has always picked at herself. Whenever she would feel upset or depressed about something she would take it out on herself. I can relate to this as I know the feeling and thoughts like; if I hurt myself in some way maybe the mental pain that I feel will go away.
