From Jesus to Christ: The Enormous Spread of Chrisitanity

Christianity has swiftly taken the hearts of many who have devoted their lives to living in its teachings. As the first author in the collection of essays "From Jesus to Christ," Helmut Koester writes: " for a human being to be related to something that is beyond the powers of this world was certainly one great attraction," Christianity seems to offer closure to a certain longing. How convenient it is to believe that this world, this life, was made for you. Christianity even offers the notion that each person was specifically made with care to be precisely the way they are. Christianity teaches that every human being on the earth was made in the image of God Himself. This is very ground breaking because "every human being" includes the low-lifes, slaves, barbarians, those in poverty. This seems to be why Christianity first became popular among the working class of ancient times. What a reassuring feeling that this all powerful, all knowing, comforting, loving, Father has made you in the image of Himself. Once this notion is engraved into one's conscience, more concepts become easier to accept. For instance: the notion that everything in life is as it was meant to be, that there is a greater scheme than what is apparent. It is clear to see the many new and hopeful ideas that sprouted from the belief of a God that is completely selfless for every human. .
Christianity has brought a sense of belonging and has filled the void of loneliness in countless hearts. Christianity first caught the eyes of those in poverty. They were the ones who needed to feel important, to feel like they had worth. Christianity had messages of the weak overcoming the strong, that everyone was called to the Lord. Christianity broke the limits and bounds of race, gender, and social status. Author Wayne A. Meeks speaks about the powerful symbols for understanding evil. Christianity offered answers to open-ended questions of why? With the new Christian mind-set, one could go about his life feeling perfect, feeling that he was part of a bigger creation than what he knew.
