Globalize or Die

Should such a mechanism that has this much power in its effectiveness to reach everyone, whether in a good way or bad, be controlled somehow? Can globalization be controlled? .
There are many reasons to think that globalization might undermine cultural diversity and at the same time foster it. Between the globalization of the economy and the tyranny of the internet, there is no such thing as an isolated country anymore. Is this a good thing or bad thing? First we will start with the culturally bad aspects in context with the internet and the so called digital divide between the east, west, rich and poor. With more than 3.2 million new pages of content every 24 hours ("Indigenous Internet") and an estimated 1 billion users by 2005 ("Indigenous Internet") the internet proves as a powerful influence and hegemonic power. Take the United States, which exerts enormous amounts of hegemonic influence, in promoting its values, habits, and beliefs through popular culture and the news media. The U.S exerts so much influence in fact, that America actually begins to get accused of trying to "Americanize" the rest of the world. Thrusting their ideas of what to eat, what music to listen to, and how to dress, making all human practices predictable and therefore profitable. This idea is exemplified by the spread of fast food industries i.e. Mc Donald's in almost every corner in the world. Multinational corporations such as Mc Donald's exploit basic material desires and create similar lifestyles hence, diminishes a countries culture. If you think about it, most of the content on the internet is in English, so these corporations with their global marketing campaigns promote a certain kind of consumerist culture and capitalistic ideals. Is the internet an example of Western domination that will eventually abolish diverse culture as we know it? Or can cultures "globalize" and join the information "super highway" to ensure cultural survival? Cultures can, because the internet also provides glorious opportunities to not only strengthen culture but to spread their culture as well.
