The importance of immigration to New York and the effects its had on the rest of the United States lies heavily on that of their own country. For the reason to visit/move to the United States.
There are different reasons why people immigrate to the United States from their country. Whether its unfairness, oppression, starvation, and others there are always causes for immigration. As in 1855 - Castle Garden was created in New York. This was the receiving station to account mass immigration. It was in existence until Ellis Island took over that duty also in 1855 an alien women married to a U.S. citizen were considered to be citizens. Along with the Know-Nothing movement from 1856 which was defeated in the presidential election. An Alban to promote Irish rural colonization in the United States was strongly opposed Eastern bishop and thus unsuccessful. Then in 1860 New York became "the largest Irish city in the world". Of its 806,651 reside 203,760 were Irish. Many reasons and problems of immigration were made so that is why so many moved here. As was noticed in 1900 when the U.S. population was at 75,994,575. Yet more added the previous year.
Each group of people Germans, Irish, French, Chinese, Japanese, Jews all contributed to the communities and our diverse/vast culture that flows through out our country. Whether it be farming, Beliefs, Culture, Language and also everyone's History. During the time of 1607-1830 immigrants reasons for going to America was Political Freedom, Religious Tolerance, Economic Opportunity, Family Reunification. Or just for the two reasons PUSH-(need to leave in order to survive) PULL-(attracted to new way of life). During 1890-1924 Jews sought religious freedom while Italians and Asians came for work, Russians came to escape persecution. While they all wanted these things like religious freedom, jobs, also known as the "Land Of Opportunity".
