Primates are a very large order that is broken down into many different subsets. All primates belong to the Mammalia class. This class is composed of mammals. Most mammals have hair all over their bodies, which is used mostly for temperature control. Humans have less hair and it is not as much used for insulation. All primates are warm-blooded. Mammals give birth to there young. The young are grown to a considerable size while in the mother. The baby then usually receives its food directly from the mother. The infant is dependent on its mother for a long period of time after birth. Primates have a lot of history. There is research to show that they have been around for millions of years. Though all primates belong to the Mammalis class they do have traits that set the apart. .
Primates have traits that set them apart from other animals. Some of these traits can be found on other animals, but not all on the same animal. Primates have prehensile, grasping, hands and feet. Most have an opposable thumb used for gripping better. These items usually have either nails or claws on them. The hands and feet are attached to arms and legs that are very mobile. These forelimbs have the ability to be moved in many directions. Primates have the ability to see. Most can see very well, and have colored eyes. The eyes are in the front of the face. Primates do not have the best sense of smell. We have an interesting social behavior. Primates live in groups and tend to get along well with each other. They have an ability to communicate, whether though words, sounds, or hand movements. Physical and emotional feelings are present in primates. The brain size is large compared to our body weight. Most primates will eat a wide variety of food, from meats to plants. .
The females have two nipples on their chest. They are used mostly as a feeding tool for the young. The males have a penis that is not attached to the body by just skin.
