French Revolution

Many commoners couldn't afford prices for food and some lost their jobs due to the lack of financial stability. Without food or money there the Third Class couldn't do much but revolt against the king. .
A large part of any well-balanced government lies within their politics. With France in great dept and a large portion of the population in crisis, something was bound to happen. With France on the verge of financial bankruptcy Louis XVI called a meeting of the Estates-General that had not met since 1614. This goes to show that Louis was never really interested in the government of his country but more about money and materials. Members from all three orders met on May 5, 1789 in the Versailles palace. From the start of the meeting people were drawn to the question whether voting should consist of counting by head or by order. Because the Third Estate had so many representatives they wanted to vote my head so that they could end up changing France in their own way. When the First Estate decided in favor of voting by order, the Third Estate declared themselves as a national assembly and drew up a constitution. On June 20, 1789 the Third Estate arrived at their meeting place only to find it locked up. .
They moved the meeting to an indoor tennis court and vowed to meet until they drew up the French constitution. Lois XVI fearing that he might lose his kingdom sided with the First Estate and threatened the Estates-General. The National Assembly voted to get rid of seigniorial rights and the fiscal privileges of nobles, clergy, towns, and provinces. This resulted in bringing the people to the top of politics and set the way for future revolutions in Europe. .
Since the middle ages France has been divided into Three Estates. Each estate was made up with different privileges and rankings. "Before the Revolution, French society was grounded in the idea of privilege or an inequality of rights" (386).
