In business ethics, a clear communication from theorists to practitioners is important if positive effects in the workplace are to be achieved. Generally managers do not get what they need because they have guidelines that need to be followed when making difficult decisions. Generally organizations have to follow very strict guidelines in order to terminate you for legal reasons. Employee rights are a very complex issue in that managers should be able to deal with any situation and must have an understanding of ethical conditions. In this paper, I will be discussing the rights of employees in their workplace as it is an important issue in the field of business ethics. I will also provide some suggestions on how to understand the moral foundations of the requirements of employee's rights.
Issues such as poor compensation, discrimination, and privacy invasions are various sorts of neglect in an organization. Rowan states, a right should be understood as a "moral claim", not necessarily recognized by a conventional system. An employee should have the right to receive equal pay in which there are different contexts where this is relevant. Another employee right is that the employee needs to have a safety work environment. A third would be is the due process in the work place, where the employees have the right to participate in decision making as well as being informed of any type of company problems that arise. At last, employees ought to have the right to privacy in their workplace as well as outside the workplace. .
"This privacy issue derives from the basic right to freedom, and at a minimum this entails the right to be left alone including the .
right to withhold from employers personal information that is not relevant to the job (Werhane, 1985)". For instance, some companies force the employees to take polygraph tests in order to comply with their policies, but it is still morally questionable.
