             The Psychological Profile.
             Suicide- the taking of ones own life; and a serious problem in the correctional system. Some blame the conditions of prison and it deteriating effects on a person it is the cause of suicides. Other say that a person no matter where they are would be suicidal no matter what. But in prison the amount of suicides by percentage is large then those out in the free world. So certain measures must be taken by correction officials.
             The use of suicide is used as an escape, an escape from life because to the individual life has gotten to horrid to continue. The percentage of people committing suicide is bad enough in the free world it is much worse inside the walls of prison. Though it is obvious there are two main factors in making a suicide possible.
             Some people are more prone to suicidal behavior given certain personality traits. For the most part they are anti- social and feel a very strong sense of disconnection with the world. They feel as if there is no purpose for being here.
             When a person is thrown into prison the feeling of disconnection is given to all the inmates. Then not to mention harassment and other forms of demeaning acts committed to individuals some people who would have never considered suicide before now act on this for they think that now that they were in prison any normal life is now over.
             With all of this to take into account making a suicide free environment in a prison is a hard thing to do. For most are under funded and under staffed to carry out proper suicide safety procedures. But this is a problem the correctional system is not ignoring, though they now need to come up with a cheaper more cost effective process to protect individuals.
             Even knowing the root of the problem in suicide it is going to be hard to prevent people from committing it. The amount of money and man power needed is just not there. Though the search for a better more effective methods of prevention are still being investigated it will take time.
