Abstinence Only Sex Education

Many people also feel that abstinence-only sex education should not be the only form of sex education taught; "Eighty- five percent of all Americans believe that adolescents should be given ALL of the facts about sex, including the facts about how to protect themselves from sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies-(Opposing Abstinence 1)
Therefore, teenagers should know about all aspects of sex education. Teenagers should know what contraceptions are and where to purchase them. For example, which is the best form of contraception and why is it the best. In addition, teenagers also need to learn the correct way to use contraception. Teenagers who are not already having sex are wondering what all the hype is. Many will acquire information that they may think is credible, when in reality is not credible. If in fact, teenagers who are only taught abstinence-only sex education, will more than likely try to find information from other sources for information about sex. Teenagers may look upon the media to give them information about sex, when actually this is one of the worst places to receive information about sex. Actors may have sex on television, but very few of these people promote condom use. Teenagers may ask friends about sex; however, teenagers should not give other teenagers information about sex. Teenagers do not have the medical and professional knowledge to give someone else information about sex. For these reasons, it is imperative that more forms of sex education be taught rather than abstinence-only.
Since the beginning of time, most parents and their children, especially their teenagers have a strained relationship. If a parent has a hard time making general conversation, then it will be extra hard for the parents to talk about sex with their teenagers.
