The Metamorphosis

~ What I thought would be a normal day turned out to be the beginning of my new world. What I once knew all changed apparently overnight. Gregor didn=t get up as usual this morning, which in his case was very unusual. When I heard him answer my fathers calls from inside of his room I knew something was wrong because he didn=t sound okay. I immediately grew worried. For a while I just sat outside of his door listening for any sign that he was okay inside of his room. When Gregor=s boss arrived at our home I just knew that something bad was going happen. I feared that my brother, the sole provider of our family, was going to lose his job, and the lifestyle that I had become accustomed to was going to come to an end. Just the thought of this made me so upset that I could not refrain from crying outside of Gregor=s room. I know that was selfish of me at the time, but I didn=t care. Nothing could have prepared me for what was to come next. After being sent to fetch the doctor, which I later discovered was unnecessary, I noticed that the doors to Gregor=s room were unlocked so I took a peek in to make sure he was alright. What I saw could not have been my brother. What I saw was a large grotesque creature, not Gregor. Gregor was not a man anymore he had now taken a new form. Somehow over the course of the night he transformed into a bug.
~ I feel somewhat responsible for what has happened to Gregor. We have put so much pressure on him to provide for the family over these past few years. He must hate us for that. Everyday Gregor woke up to catch the early train to work so that he could provide us with all of these luxuries. He worked so hard everyday just so that he could pay off my fathers debt and still afford our lavish lifestyle. Maybe the pressure got to be too much for him to handle. What if we had helped out a little, instead of putting all of the burden on him? I could have gotten a job and helped out a little, but instead I just played my violin all the time.
