How does a world where happiness exists everyday and you would never have to worry about anything, because everything would be organized and controlled sound? Aldous Huxley illustrates this type of lifestyle in the novel, Brave New World. Early in the 20th century during the Great Depression many writers sought to write about pure utopian societies. Huxley was one of those writers who created this futuristic world in which every person was grown from test tubes, conditioned biologically and psychologically, and then divided by caste. The castes range from highest intelligence levels (Alpha's) to moron intelligence levels (Epsilon's). In this society they follow the motto of stability, community, and identity, stability being the most important of the three. There are many things that make up the Brave New World, however there are more things missing from the "happy" and "fun-filled" world. Such aspects like knowledge, individuality, freedom, love, and friendships are all altered in a sense that one would never know the true meaning of those aspects. Furthermore, much analysis is available to state against a world like this; reading from the other philosophers there are many points Plato, Kant, and Mill would make against this also. .
There are many characteristics that make up the Brave New World, some of those include: control, conditioning, basic pleasures (mostly physical), drugs, and lack of strong emotions (love, friendships, etc.). Control is the main aspect in this new world, everything you do is controlled in some way by the Director or government. No one of this society realizes just how much they are being controlled, because they were conditioned to feel happy. The totalitarian society Huxley creates depends on conditioning significantly. Every human is brought up in state conditioning centers in which they receive biological and psychological conditioning. Hypnopaedia is a method the state uses where the child will be conditioned in his sleep to feel happy and to know his duty in the State.
