During his being a black person he witnessed many things, that amazed him, and sent him out of his mind.
             While being a black person, Griffin has witnessed many things. At first he noticed the hate stare that is used by white people. He couldn't believe what he is seeing, especially when he once walked up to a ticket counter in a train station. He went through something that he has never been in all his life. As Griffin mentions "I walked up to the ticket counter. When the lady ticket-seller saw me, her otherwise attractive face turned sour, violently so. This look was so unexpected and unprovoked I was taken aback" (52) He points how surprised he is, from the lady's look toward him. As if he is something lower than she, or not a human being as she is. Again he continued telling the story "She jerked the bill furiously from my hand and stepped away form the window. In a moment she reappeared to hurl my change and the ticket on the counter with such force most of it fell on the floor at my feet. I was really dumfounded by this deep fury that possessed her whenever she looked at me"(52-53) He explains how shocking and embarrassing it is for him being in a situation like this.
