The book I am going to report on is called Gremlins. Originally a film directed by Steven Spielberg, it was then transformed into a book. The novel was written by George Gipe and is based on the screenplay by Chris Columbus. Anything Steven Spielberg touches seemed to turn into gold (and this movie was no exception). This adventure/action movie was the first of its three part series and was a huge hit in both the UK and the US. It was then inevitable that a book would be published. Although it was not as big a hit as the movie it was still widely bought.
It all starts with an inventor Rand Peltzer. He is seeking a more interesting gift for his only son Billy, when he sets his eyes on an unusual creature. It is nothing he has ever seen before and thinks it is perfect for a Christmas present. He attempts to buy the creature from an old Chinese man but he refuses, saying that it is one of a kind; his best friend and he could not sell it. He still tries his best and asks him to name a price for the creature. The Chinese man refuses again but afterwards, his grandson agrees and soon Rand is back in his home in Kingston Falls ready to give Billy his surprise. When Billy receives the creature he instantly falls in love with it and dubs it "Gizmo". As the days pass on, he gets closer and closer to Gizmo. However, all is not fun and games as there are 3 important (and famous) rules about Gizmo(s):.
1. DO not expose them to light.
2. DO not get them wet.
3. And above all, no matter how they cry. No matter how much they beg, never, NEVER feed them after midnight .
And obviously in true Hollywood fashion in the book (and in the play), he breaks every one of these rules. After turning another few pages you find that when he drops water on them, they multiply in number and there is now many little Gizmo's running around. Though only difference being that these new ones are evil. Then, they eat after midnight and they create slimy eggs.
