             Hamlet is now keeping watch outside the castle with Heratio and Marcellus and waiting for the ghost. The ghost finally appears and wants to Hamlet to follow it, Heratio and Marcellus urge him not to, but he is unsure whether the ghost is truly the ghost of his dead father, or if it was an evil spirit. Hamlet follows the ghost, and soon after so do Heratio and Marcellus.
             ACT 1 SCENE 5.

             The ghost speaks to Hamlet and claims to be his father's spirit. The ghost wants Hamlet to avenge his death. The ghost states that he was killed by ear poison when Claudius dumped some in his ear while he was sleeping. .
             ACT 2 SCENE 1.
             Characters: Polonius, Ophelia, Reynaldo.
             Setting: A room in Polonius's house.
             Summary:.
             Polonius sends Reynaldo to France with money and written notes for Laertes, he orders him to spy on Laertes personal life. Polonius suspects that Hamlet may be madly in love with Ophelia and that may be the cause of Hamlet's moodiness. .
             ACT 2 SCENE 2.
             Characters: King, Guildenstern, Rosencrantz, Polonius, Hamlet.
             Setting: Room in castle. (After midnight).
             Summary: .
             Polonius declares, that the prince is mad with love for Ophelia. He shows the king and queen letters and love poems Hamlet has given to Ophelia, and proposes a plan to test his theory. Hamlet often walks alone through the lobby of the castle, so when he does, they could hide behind a curtain while Ophelia confronts Hamlet, allowing them to see for themselves whether Hamlet's madness is really caused from his love for her. The king declares that they will try the plan.
             ACT 3 SCENE 1.
             Characters: King, Queen, Polonius, Ophelia, Rosencrantz, Guildenstern.
             Setting: Room in the castle (later that day).
             Summary:.
             Hamlet thinks about committing suicide to end his suffering. Hamlet sees Ophelia and blames her for women and making men behave like monsters and for contributing to the world's dishonesty by painting their faces to appear more beautiful than they are.
