The Passion of the Christ:: A comparison with the Gospels

" (Matthew 26: 61, Mark 14:58) But even this is not enough evidence for the elders to satisfy their goal of condemning Jesus to death. It is when the High Priest asks Jesus if he is the Christ that he receives the answer that he has been looking for. .
"Jesus responds, "Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied. "But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven." Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, "He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?".
"He is worthy of death," they answered. (Matthew 26:64-66).
Gibson takes poetic license with this scene and shows some of the Jewish high priests defending Jesus and calling the hearing a travesty. This reference does not occur in the bible, but is taken from Sister Anne Emmerich's vision of the Passion.
             The Anointing at Bethany.
In reviewing the Passion story in the Gospel, I noticed that Gibson left out the Anointing at Bethany from his movie. Matthew, Mark and Luke all mention this story in the Passion narrative. Gibson omits this from his version. This Gospel narrative illustrates the fact that, despite Jesus" preaching and forewarning to his disciples about the task at hand, that they still did not fully comprehend the true message behind it. The simple task of anointing Jesus with expensive perfume showed to Him that this woman understood; not only did she demonstrate her devotion and love for the Savior, but that she understood His true identity and purpose. The disciples failed to acknowledge this and instead rebuked the woman for wasting the perfume. Jesus" reprimands his disciples and asks them "why are you bothering her?" (Mark 14:6) Jesus knows that her motives were pure, while the disciples are concerned with the overall value of the perfume itself. .
They still did not understand Jesus" message.
