What Post Abortion Syndrome is and Is it Real?.
Induced abortions can have negative effects on the mother as well as those who surround .
her. Studies have shown that women who have experienced an abortion have shown both .
physical and psychological negative effects. Approximately 77% of the questionnaire participants .
agreed that abortion can be very dangerous both physically and psychologically, over 80% of the .
participants agree that abortion will have negative effects on the mother. In the author's .
questionnaire data was also collected concerning the physical effects, over 50% of the participants .
agreed that women could show signs of breast cancer, miscarriages and bleeding from the pelvis .
as physical effects (See Appendix C for visual statistics). The data that the author has collected .
corresponds with that of Elizabeth Ring-Cassidy and Ian Gentles, (2002) whom have described .
many of the negative effects following abortions. They described some of the physical effects as .
an increase in the over-all risk of breast cancer by 30%, an increased risk in subsequent premature .
births as well as a significant risk of infertility, pelvic inflammatory disease, and many others. This .
study explained that the mothers who have had an abortion are also in danger of haemorrhages .
due to the abortion.
Dr. Brenda Major conducted a similar study to show the physical and psychological .
effects of abortion. During her research she discovered that 17% of women experienced physical .
problems such as bleeding or pelvic infection associated with the abortion. She explained that this .
rate is very high considering clinic counsellors rarely inform women of this rate of physical .
complications (2000).
Psychological Effects of an Abortion.
The American Psychological Association clearly states that there is no evidence of Post .
Abortion Syndrome The author researched the negative psychological effects of abortion .
