I have checked out a couple of different nursing homes for my mom. The first one called "Rest stop for the elderly" seemed to have very nice staff. However, while walking around the facility, I noticed a bad odor like urine, there seemed to be dust everywhere, and it was just a dull place. However, I did decide to go back again, except for this time I saw a woman sitting in the lounge area who has urinated all over herself and no staff member was around to help her go and clean up.
The second nursing home visited was called "Elderly Fun House." This place did not seem bad at all. It has a big indoor pool, a miniature golf course, a movie theater, and a game room. There were plenty of staff and they seemed very friendly. I talked too many of the patients and they seemed very happy. While talking to the administrator of the nursing home, I found out they have their own physicians office in the building and they take the patients on activities like to the park for a picnic and to museums often. Everything looked very safe in this facility. The railings were secure in the hallways and bathrooms, lighting was good, electrical outlets were covered if they were not being used, nothing was cluttered in any room, and no chairs or other items were laying in the hall. In the nurses station the doors were locked at all times when a nurse was not present, medications were locked in a separate cabinet and no needles or other harmful items were seen. When walking through the area where patient's rooms were, I noticed that the rooms were decorated very nice. Looking even closer, I found out that the patients could put up their own pictures, what-nots and anything else they wanted around their room. This just turned me over, I was so happy to see a place that could resemble being home for mom. I decided to go back again a week later in the afternoon around dinnertime. To my amazement, everything was just as good as ever.
