Cameras in the Courtroom

Not every person takes a law course in high school or has a copy of the Canadian Criminal Code in their house and therefore people are not aware of the consequences their actions might have. This impact would result in lower crime rates because the public is more aware of the personal consequences of breaking the law. In possible cases of assault or murder it would eliminate danger to any potential victims and heartache to their families. Lower crime rates also create a positive economic impact for the system as less money will needed to be spent and a lot of time will be saved.
             .
Time is a big issue in the Canadian courts system because there are simply too many cases. Many more guilty criminals are walking away free because citizens are protected under the right to be tried after a reasonable amount of time (six months normally) of committing the crime. However this is only the case for summary convictions, charges that are below $2000 or under 6 months of imprisonment. In summary, televised trials would create a greater deterrence would could result in fewer crimes and consequently a much needed relief for a system pressured by time and money.
Every person charged under the Canadian Justice System has the right to be tried under a fair trial, but is that always true? Society doesn't know the answer because cameras are disallowed in the courts. It is only assumes that the courts are following all rights under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. In many cases the people's rights are infringed, some lawyers argue it but some don't, it often depends on how much the lawyer is being paid. That is one of the many flaws of the legal system that must be fixed, people with money are treated differently. This is wrong and an outrage because everybody no matter economic status should be treated equally. The public needs to stop assuming and actually follow up on what really happens in the courtroom.
