What steroids bring to the game of baseball is an extra advantage that gives players an edge over competitors. Steroids can give motivation for players to think about getting stronger, faster, and bigger to get ahead in today's game. Today's game is one of heroes and legends in the present. Players Sammy Sosa and Frank Thomas have formed into a couple of Chicago's home town legends. Little kids across the country grow up dreaming about playing in the World Series with the bases-loaded with a full count, waiting for a pitch to drive over the left field fence for the game winning grand slam. Kids look at players and want to be them. If steroids are being used, kids are getting a false sense of what the truth really is. Every baseball player has to believe at sometime or another that he will be looked upon as a role model. Kids are funny in the way that they look for heroes to imitate to be the best they can be. When Major League players taint themselves with steroids they are just becoming bad role models for the youth of the nation. As horrible as it is, what starts at the Major League level will water-fall down into the minor league system, deeper into the college level, and spilling off into the high schools. The affect of steroids are truly unknown but one can only imagine what the steroids in fact have done to the quality of the game. The game as we know it will not be the same in the future (Gwynn). .
The social stand point of steroids has generated controversy throughout the media. The media has exploded onto the issue of steroids as fire eats away at the dry California forests in the heat of summer. Misled radio jocks and sport show commentators have ripped into the heart of Major League Baseball and tore out all of its insides and twisted the rumors of steroids just to please themselves. The radio jocks are over stimulated due to the topic of steroids. One can only think the reason due to the jealousy that these men have towards the players.
