Dantes As A Christlike Figure in Count of Monte Cristo

To be a Christ-like figure, you must suffer for other people's sins, but reward those who have helped you. I believe Dantes suffered very much due to the choices made by Danglars, Fernand, and Villefort. He also rewarded those, such as Morrel, for being his friend and not turning their back on him.
Dantes suffered greatly throughout the beginning of the book. He had his life made; Captain of the Pharoan & his fiancée, Mercedes. Due to Villefort's family and Danglars' and Fernand's jealousy, that all was taken away from him. Because of their lies, Dantes' life was torn apart, just like Christ's life was taken away from because the people did not believe he was King of the Jews. From this point until his escape, he suffered also by not knowing why he was imprisoned.
Through his suffering, he began to plan how to reward those who never turned their back on him. He rewarded many with money, and some with love and happiness. For Morrel, the poor ship owner, Dantes, now known as The Count of Monte Cristo, rewarded him with money to pay his bills. For Maximillian Morrel, he rewarded him with the love of his life, Valentine. Although he did reward those who helped him greatly in his earlier life, they had to suffer before getting their happiness so they would appreciate what they have received.
Dantes is like Christ in another way, in the way that he was resurrected from the dead as a new person, the Count of Monte Cristo. While being this character, he plans to take revenge on those who made him suffer. He made Danglars go bankrupt, Villefort go insane, and Fernand lose all he ever had, including his wife and child.
For the things Dantes had in his previous life, he never tried to retrieve any of it. All in he wanted in his "new life- was to seek revenge on those who hurt him and reward those who were his friends. In Mercedes case, she betrayed Dantes by marrying the man who put him in jail.
