Problems Facing Hispanic Youth

            The vast majority of the Hispanic community comes from families coming to the United States to have more opportunities. Unfortunately they have taken so many positions that don't require education that their children have not been raised to push for higher education. Many things will have to change so that more Hispanic students choose to continue their education. I believe that the changes that must be made for more Hispanics to choose to go to college are: there must be more opportunities for Hispanic children to attend both elementary school and secondary school, Hispanic parents need to educate their children on the importance of college, and universities need to help make entering college more comfortable for Hispanic students. .
             One of the important areas that must change for more Hispanics to enter and complete college is having more opportunities for these children to go to elementary school and then secondary school. Many families come to the United States very poor. The parents work and so do most of the kids. If these children that are forced to enter the work force at a young age are instead sent to school their growth would be much quicker and their knowledge would be much more extensive. They would then be much more productive, and much more equipped to take care of themselves. Elementary and Secondary schooling are the first two steps that come before college. These steps must be completed before going to college is even an option. After putting the time into finishing high school, it would seem that the students would then have the confidence and have the want to further their education.
             Another important aspect that must be focused on for more Hispanic students to enter college is having the Hispanic parents educate their children and push the idea of how important higher learning is. My mother has always taught me that going to college isn't an option - it's mandatory.
