Oppressing Reading

According to Zach, a board member, read the book and he did not find it inappropriate. Instead he came to the conclusion that "it could be used as the beginning point in good discussions about the subject sex" (Milam). If this book is banned from school libraries, Zach has a good point. Not only the book would be taken away and the information will not be known, but a family could miss the opportunity to touch the topic about sex. Teenagers should be able to read this book. It can help them see how sex can affect one's life. This is not the only book that is being banned from schools for having a few line of sex, a lot of information is taken away from the hands of young people. .

             (Jackson). Jack Brock was the pastor who coordinated this event along with the members of his congregation. His reason for doing so was because the "Potter books are capturing the minds of young kids who have a hard time dividing between fantasy and reality" (Jackson). But do not all children need to have fantasy books. Books are being burned just so that the information inside them could not go out in to the minds of young readers. If a child is not doing much reading it is because it has a problem doing so. Maybe it has not found a book that is interesting and will keep them interested. Books that are written for children often have magic in them so that their attention could be dragged. If fantasy books are burned children will not develop their imagination. They will not read books because they are not interesting. The chance to enjoy a good book is taken out off their hands.
